About Matthew Auman, MD
"I believe primary care saves lives and greatly improves health. Many conditions can be treated or even cured with prompt diagnosis. I strive to be as efficient as possible and respect my patients’ time while also spending the time needed to fully address their concerns,” said Dr. Auman. “I got into healthcare because my mother was a registered nurse. I literally grew up in a hospital. I started college studying business and economics but decided that was not the right path for me. After sitting in on a roommate’s biology course I found I loved it. I switched my career to medicine."
“I feel very blessed to practice medicine during a golden age of new treatments. Everything from cures for hepatitis C to immunotherapy for cancer and now even the beginnings of disease modifying treatment for Alzheimer’s. When I began my medical training none of these treatments existed. I am privileged to help guide patients to new and better treatments developed by unsung scientists. My special interests include treatment of diabetes and obesity. I also treat uncomplicated hepatitis C. Our office sees patients of all ages starting at six months old."
“I chose family medicine because I am interested in almost all aspects of medicine and did not want to limit myself to one organ system. I believe family medicine is one of the most needed specialties to help patients navigate a complex and highly specialized healthcare system."
"I enjoy spending time with my family and children. I enjoy gardening, stargazing, camping, and exploring Texas and rural areas of the country. I enjoy reading history – specifically economic and financial history as well as the history of technology including the history of pharmacology. I enjoy learning about new and emerging medications and treatments."
