Flu season: Don’t wait to get vaccinated

If you didn’t get a flu shot yet this year, it’s time.

Flu influenza is a contagious respiratory illness that can cause mild to severe symptoms along with life-threatening complications.

The good news is that there is still time to receive the flu shot and decrease the likelihood of contracting the flu. Annual influenza vaccinations are recommended for everyone over 6 months of age.

Vaccination is especially important for people at high risk of influenza complications, such as young children, pregnant women and older adults.

An individual with a chronic medical condition such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease is also more likely to have complications.

So when is the right time to get vaccinated?

The earlier, the better in terms of getting your flu shot. Keep in mind—the flu shot doesn’t reach full effectiveness until two to three weeks after vaccination.

Flu shots are available at our Family Medicine Clinics. Call 254-618-1020 for your flu shot at a Wellstone location. Walk-ins are welcome.
